Boosting mind and body at Colliers Moss
08 June 2017
We are delighted to be working The Mersey Forest Team on a 5 week summer term programme at nearby Colliers Moss.
Through a range of activities the aim of the programme is to engage children in learning, boost health and fitness and increase confidence. Outdoor experiences in nature are a vital part of growing up and will help students to re-connect with their green spaces.
Ben Greenaway, Green Streets Coordinator at The Mersey Forest Team said "The principal is that pupils will be gradually made aware of both the natural environment and the history of the site and that this might lead to a display being made in the school after the sessions are completed."
The exciting programme of activities includes: Pond Dipping/Leaf I.D./Litter Picking/Mini beast spotting/ History project- characters of the Moss & Millennium Bridge Past Stories, Look see & hear – trails and signs of nature and bird-watching.
Check back regularly to read updates on the students' progress.
It's just thirty years since the colliery headgear came crashing down at Bold Colliery. Situated right next to a power station, this was one of the most industrial sites in the country. Now, nature has taken over and it's transformed into a tranquil green space with woods, lagoons and more.
Over the summer there is a whole programme of activities being run at Colliers Moss by The Mersey Forest Team ranging from a bat walk to Fungal Foray to Junior Park Run. Check the resources folder on the right of this page for more details. The Junior Park run will be announced soon but due for July, subject to this Crowdfunder for a defibrillator.
