EPQ at St Cuthbert's
03 May 2017
Yesterday St Cuthbert’s hosted our first EPQ presentation afternoon which involved 5 of our local primary schools. EPQ stands for Extended Project Qualification and involved selected Year 5 pupils researching and creating a project about the local history of St Helens in the hope that skills that they will need to complete their SATS next year would be used and practised.
21 Year 5 pupils with their teachers and parents joined staff at St Cuthbert’s to present their projects in front of a panel of judges, Mr Hill, Principal at Carmel College, Mrs Twist, our Headteacher, Mr Harvey, Vice-Chairman of our Governing Body and Mr Gibbins, our Literacy Lead here at St Cuthbert’s.

All pupils involved presented their work extremely well making it very difficult for our judges to choose an overall ‘winner’. The pupils were all winners in our eyes! As I’m sure you will agree standing up in front of a room full of people takes courage!
After much deliberation our panel of judges decided that awards should be given to the following pupils for their efforts in completing their EPQ presentation:
- 1st Prize – Harrison R. from St Anne’s Catholic Primary School
- 2nd Prize – Angel T. from Allanson Street Primary School
- 3rd Prize – Hannah D. from Holy Cross Catholic Primary School.

We thank all the pupils, parents and staff involved and look forward to hosting this event again next year.
