60th Anniversary

On Friday 29th September 2017 we celebrated the 60th anniversary of our school.

60 years could be considered a short span of life for a school but the beauty of such a diamond anniversary is that we are able to share it with those men and women trained within its walls, some of whom are now the parents and grandparents of our current students.

In his appreciation statement back in 1957 the Chairman of School Governors wrote that “without the sacrifices of our parishioners and helpers, St Cuthbert’s could never been founded and the school fulfil its high purpose!”  Those words remain true to this day.

We celebrated our legacy with a host of activities and events throughout the year, including:

60th Anniversary Mass

As part of our 60th anniversary year, St Cuthbert’s held a celebratory Mass in the magnificent surroundings of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool.

We were delighted to welcome along so many members of the school community, from students and staff past and present, to civic dignitaries, as well as Y6 pupils from our partner primary schools.

With a 1,200 strong congregation in attendance, the Mass was themed around St Cuthbert himself, using the emblems featured on our school badge to highlight his enduring influence.

St Cuthbert’s Art, Dance & Music Festival

The St Cuthbert’s Art, Dance & Music Festival is a highlight of our school year, a chance to see the amazing array of talent that makes up our school community.

With stunning artwork from Years 9, 10 & 11 on display, dance performances from our current students, musical recitals and a look back on the history of St Cuthbert’s over the past 60 years, it was a fabulous festival where we celebrated the gifts and accomplishments of our students.

Charity Run

This year saw the 8th annual St Helens 10k race take place, with a team from St Cuthbert’s training hard to raise money for our Student Wellbeing Fund and The Steve Prescott Foundation.

The #StCuthberts4Precky team was made up of current and former staff, students, and family members, with all runners completing the 6.2 mile course and achieved great finishing times. Well done!

#StCuthFEST

Rounding off our 60th year celebrations in style, St Cuthbert’s presented #StCuthFEST – a music festival staged in the school grounds and open to the whole community.

We celebrated the diversity of music from our past, present and future, including acts from pupils at our partner primary schools, solo performances from current students and staff and even a performance from St Cuthbert’s school rock band!

Sapho, a rock n roll 3 piece band made up of St Cuthbert’s alumni, returned to the school for a special guest performance, and hosting duties were provided by Chris Milow – Wish FM presenter and the voice of Saints Stadium!

A special summer event enjoyed by all and the perfect way to end our 60th year anniversary.

We also asked Staff and Students to tell us about their experience of St Cuthbert's - see the results below!
