Earth Day 2022 will fall on Friday 22nd April and this year's theme is 'Invest in Our Planet'.
On the day, as whole school, we will celebrate by offering a special menu for the day.
We have utilised ingredients that are currently in season across the UK as the core ingredients of our dishes. This allows us to reduce our environmental footprint we have by reducing the distance of the produce being transported around the food chain to being cooked an served within school.
Whilst we already actively use many ingredients such as UK Red Tractor Accredited Meats, that help us reduce our environmental impact and assure quality of produce, we have spoken to suppliers and asked if the fresh produce required can be sourced from farms as local as the Borough of St Helens as possible for the event.
Mrs Twist said: "Events like these highlight the importance we all play in helping with the climate crisis and the future of our young people.
"By working together and doing our own bit, as a community, we will continue to preserve and protect our health, our families and our livelihoods."
Additionally, on Earth Day, as part of the Queen's Green Canopy Initiative, St Cuthbert's Duke of Edinburgh volunteers will plant a tree to create a legacy, in honour of the Queen's leadership, which will benefit both the environment and school's local community.
Adem, Year 10 student and Duke of Edinburgh Volunteer, said: "It's amazing to be a part of something like this, as a community we will be part of history."
