Discovering Health Day at Whiston Hospital

A group of Year 10 students took part in the Discovering Health: Patient Journey Day at Whiston Hospital on Thursday 14th December 2017.

The students were introduced to a patient scenario and then followed that patient through their hospitalisation, meeting all the different healthcare professionals that the patient would meet and learning about their specific role in patient care, and how they fit into the wider NHS. They also met current healthcare students and university admissions tutors to gain a better understanding of studying healthcare at university and what it entails.

The Patient Journey Day took place in the purpose built education block at Whiston Hospital allowing students to gain valuable experience in a clinical environment, and providing an experience for students to draw on when applying for further courses, including FE/HE courses and apprenticeships.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the day, with quotes of;

  • 'It was fantastic, I really enjoyed it.'
  • 'I definitely want to go into the healthcare/medical profession now.'
  • 'I loved seeing all the different area and roles and getting involved.'
