A Day in the Life of a Police Officer.

I’m sure at some point you’ve all asked: what does a police officer actually do all day? Here at St. Cuthbert’s we wanted to found out and were lucky enough to have an exclusive interview with PC M. Pender – our school officer.

From submitting intelligence to patrolling our streets and keeping us safe, we got a good insight into the daily life of a police officer.

Here’s what he had to say:

Q.How long have you been in the police force?

A.I have been in the police force for 17 years so far.

Q. What area are you based in?

A. I am based all over Merseyside. The chief has one team philosophy so we go wherever we are needed.

Q. What are the favourite parts of your job?

A. The favourite part of my job is helping people and being a Good Samaritan. Also, over time at football is brill.

Q. What are the ratio of positives to negatives overall?

A. Well basically, there are more negative events in my job to positives. There are lots of drug problems and fighting on the streets and things like that, whereas there is only over time at football matches and maybe music festivals that’s good but then again the music festivals can also be problematic.

Q. Can you explain what you do on a day to day basis?

A. Well, firstly I go to a team briefing to see what has gone on in the last 72 hours (3 Days). Then we talk about the crime patterns of what has been going on. Then finally, we group up together and solve the problems that have been happening.

So, after our own investigation of how a police officer lives daily, we have been convinced that it isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Some days are tragic and others are a pleasure. The invaluable work that the officers do is to keep us safe but also to make sure we live in a peaceful environment. Now you know what it involves, what role would you take if you had the ability and were able to join the UK’s amazing police force?
