Heart Week at St. Cuthbert’s: An opportunity to experience ‘life in all its fulness’ (John 10:10)
What a week it’s been at St. Cuthbert’s! Heart Week brought so much joy, energy, and community as students and staff embraced a packed schedule of exciting activities to round off our Lenten journey. From fun challenges to creative performances and charity fundraising, the whole school came together to make it a truly special time.
We kicked things off on Monday with an action-packed ‘Beat the Goalie’ challenge. The star of the show? Yr9 student Kendall, who has been signed to Manchester United Football Club for the past four years. Students had the opportunity to test their football skills against a future pro, and let’s just say—it was no easy feat getting past Kendall!
Tuesday had everyone’s sweet tooth covered with a fantastic Sweet Treats Sale at break and lunchtime, all enjoyed while raising money for charity. A perfect mix of treats and good deeds.
Wednesday’s ‘Just Danceathon’ had students and staff showing off their best dance moves in a lively, laughter-filled session. It was all about having fun, getting active, and embracing the feel-good vibes.
Thursday was all about talent and entertainment as ‘Cuthie’s Got Talent’ took centre stage. From incredible singers and musicians to hilarious comedians and talented dancers, our students amazed the audience with their performances. It was an unforgettable showcase of the creativity and confidence within our school community.
Friday was the grand finale! We ran a Drop-Down Day, where traditional lessons were replaced with engaging, hands-on activities. Students learned vital CPR skills, enjoyed a heart healthy ‘Pilgrimage walk’ around the school field and had a blast with a music bingo quiz focused on well-being. Two classroom sessions explored heart health and balanced lifestyles, while a collaborative art project beautifully captured the essence of St. Cuthbert’s core values.
To top it all off, Friday was Non-Uniform Day. The school was a sea of red and heart-themed outfits, as students donated £1 to support the British Heart Foundation and CAFOD. This was all part of our Lenten journey and the Year of Jubilee, echoing Pope Francis’ message of being ‘Pilgrims of Hope.’
Heart Week wasn’t just about fun—it was about coming together, showing kindness, and making a difference. A huge thank you to Mrs Hudson, everyone who took part, helped organize events, and made this week truly special. Through our commitment, community, courage, and compassion, we’ve shown that St. Cuthbert’s really does have a big heart!
