Personal Development

Curriculum Intent

“The only person you are destined to be is the person you decide to be.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

The Personal Development curriculum at St Cuthbert’s will provide all students with the skills and knowledge needed to live safe, happy and fulfilled lives.  Our intent is to nurture, educate and inspire students so they can be happy, healthy young people who have the academic knowledge and personal character to lead safe and successful lives beyond school. Consequently, students are able to live life to the full. John, 10:10.

We aim to provide our students with a broad range of opportunities to enable them to develop their individual God-given talents and broader character. We aim to develop students as active global students with the skills, abilities and attributes to contribute positively to their school and wider communities. We aim to remove barriers to participation to ensure an equity of offer for all students.

Specifically, Personal Development at St Cuthbert’s seeks to ensure students can protect themselves both on and offline, improve their physical and emotional health, develop character, resilience, and academic potential, and strengthen their leadership attributes. Our Personal Development curriculum ensures that students are educated in the following areas:

-Personal Safety

-Positive Relationships

-Financial Literacy

-Careers and Employability

-Community and responsibility

-Health and Wellbeing

Within these topic areas, students build a solid knowledge of all statutory topics, and a broad understanding of the issues which are prevalent within our school community. These topics are sequenced carefully to ensure that knowledge is cumulative and to ensure that the content delivered is age appropriate, and delivered at a relevant and meaningful times throughout the school year.
